Futuristic Pier 55 Floating Park to Begin Construction over Hudson River

The Hudson River Park Trust announced all plans are a “go” for the floating park that will be constructed atop Pier 55 over the Hudson River. So reports Curbed.

The Avatar-like park features event space and a stage. Snaking paths and foliage that will change colors about every six weeks are highlights of the design.

The elevation will be lowered from 70 feet at its highest point to 62 feet, with multiple heights throughout the landscape in a system that will , trap sound and create "micro-climates." The park design is a collaboration between Signe Nielson architecture firm and Thomas Heatherwick.

The park is being financed by billionaire power couple Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg. Construction will begin this summer.
