Electronic Stability Control Mandated for Heavy Trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a final rule requiring electronic stability control (ESC) on new heavy truck tractors. So reports NHTSA.gov.

The rule takes full effect in August 2017. ESC senses uncontrolled accelerations and automatically applies ABS brakes as needed to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle. The technology applies to heavy trucks, such as those used in the shipping and construction industries.
