Construction Workers Account for 1/4 of OD Deaths in Mass.: Report

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health released a report attributing nearly one-quarter of overdose deaths over a five-year period to construction workers. So reports Building Design + Construction.

Additional research states that workers are commonly prescribed opioid-based painkillers. Compared to other workers in Massachusetts, construction workers are six times more likely to die from an opioid overdose. Pressure to work in pain and the prevalence of workplace injuries are among the chief reasons for addiction to painkillers.
