Potential Soil Contaminates Halts School Construction in Redwood City, CA

Rocketship Education was set to build a new magnet school on a land in Redwood City that has been deemed hazardous after dangerous contaminants were found in the soil at the school site. So reports the Daily Journal.

The toxins detected at the site included traces of benzene, dichloroethene, trichloroethylene and vinyl chloride, all of which could potentially contaminate the air and soil at the property. City, school, and county officials are concerned about the potential exposure to students and staff at the proposed new school, which would serve over 400 students.

All building plans are on hold until a plan to clean-up the soil and environmental health concerns.
