OSHA will combine the confined spaces in construction standard (29 CFR Subpart AA 1926.1200) with existing general industry confined space standard to provide more clearly defined rules for confined spaces in construction. So reports Occupational Health & Safety.

This change is estimated to help prevent roughly 780 serious injuries and five deaths each year. The change was deemed necessary because construction industry work spaces are constantly changing as work-on-site progresses.

The new rules aim to reduce the risks presented by hazards common to confined spaces in the construction industry, such as oxygen deficiency and the presence of explosive or toxic gases, vapors, or fumes.
